Cytometry May Be a Breakthrough For Rheumatoid Arthritis

How was data gathered and processed?

Dr. Wei, along with his colleagues, were able to analyze 58 synovial tissues extracted from 22 biopsies and 36 elective surgical procedures (20 RA and 16 OA). The patients were recruited from 10 different sites of contribution.

In their analysis they used a mix of mass cytometry, RNA sequencing, and flow cytometry. Then, the synovial tissues were "crypopreserved" before being shipped to a center for central processing. At the center, the tissues would go through disaggregation, cell sorting, mass cytometry, and RNA sequencing. Afterwards, the team was able to look into the synovial tissue to see if it offered any results by the quality and graded level of synovitis.
