Over the years, advocates have argued for the medical benefits of medical cannabis, while critics have pointed out that they feel there is a lack of evidence into the long-term effects. But does one side present a stronger case than the other?
Adrian Reynolds, an addiction specialist and member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, stressed that caution should be taken regarding making access to medical cannabis. “I would not want to see the floodgates being opened before we have much more robust evidence around the benefits, risks and harms associated with the cannabinoids” he said.
