Federal Lawmakers Support Autism with Safety and Wandering Act
Protecting other at-risk groups
Kevin and Avonte are only two of many terrible cases of autistic individuals wandering off and putting themselves in harm’s way. In 2015 alone, 31 cases were reported of autistic individuals being found dead after wandering away from safety. Even in cases where a wandering child was found, the fear and unknowing of the incident is something that could easily be avoided by the non-invasive tracking technology that Kevin and Avonte’s Law supports.
Individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia have also been at risk for wandering away from safe environments. The Kevin and Avonte Act of 2016 is extended to all Americans who may be at risk for wandering off. Now, the technologies made available to parents and caregivers of those on the autism spectrum are available to those who suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, as well.
