Success of Lab-Grown Colons Could Transform Future Crohn's and Colitis Research

Colons: What conditions could this help?

What conditions could this help?

The senior study investigator, author, and director of the Cincinnati Children's Pluripotent Stem Cell Center said that the diseases that affect this part of the gastrointestinal tract are very common and may include instances of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, colitis, Hirschsprung's disease, polyposis syndromes, and colon cancer. The ability to study these diseases have been limited partly because the mouse animal models don't duplicate the processes of the human diseases in the gastrointestinal tract. This new system that was demonstrated in the research study will allow researchers to study human diseases and development by providing an effective human model.
