How can runners combat this?
To accommodate this troublesome and embarrassing situation, Susan suggests that runners plan their routes to include an accessible bathroom. Knowing it’s there brings comfort and lessens stress.
To be further prepared, she says to put a small amount of toilet paper and/or wet wipes into your pocket when running. (Others have suggested wearing disposable pull-up undies during runs.) Susan also warns that when you feel you feel the need to move your bowels, to not put it off as this can further compromise your colon.
