Her lung transplant was also a success
For Melissa, waking up with an empty chest cavity (except for her heart) was an odd sensation, to say the least. But within hours, she could feel a difference. And within 6 days, the perfect set of organ lungs arrived at the hospital, a perfect match for Melissa. While the lung transplant was no small feat either, the Toronto General surgical team quickly and gladly performed the operation, another success story. Before the operation, Melissa “always felt like she was breathing through a straw,” but now, it’s a piece of cake. And even better news, the cystic fibrosis will never occur in her lungs again, an incredible feat for cystic fibrosis patients since many die from infected lungs.
