Additionally, it is good to be aware of what exercises may be harder on the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. A general rule of thumb is that if it is high impact like running or high intensity interval training, it is going to be hard on your gut. That does not mean that you do not have options to fit in that highly beneficial cardio. Activities with a smoother motion such as cross-country skiing, swimming, or biking will likely be a bit easier on the GI tract. Many people make themselves do activities that they do not actually enjoy. Do not do this. There are so many options that it is ok if you try a few before you find one that you like. If you enjoy exercising, you are more likely to do it. Besides, when you are trying to decrease stress through exercise, it does not make sense if your activity choice is something that stresses you out.
