Loss of mobility with MS
Greg Winn is a former occupational therapist. During his career, he recognized that people who were independent face their greatest challenges when they start to lose the ability to function in day-to-day tasks. It's one of the greatest burdens for these patients, especially when simple tasks that we often take for granted are lost. These can include tasks like brushing your teeth, cleaning the house, cooking simple meals, and toilet hygiene.
One of the main goals of occupational therapy is to prolong mobility and independence for as long as possible. This gives the patients freedom and control over their own lives. It also relieved their guilt on burdening their loved ones. Independent function is a huge factor in someone's quality of life, and therapists work hard to help patients safely keep this functional ability for as long as possible.
