Protein Secreted by Parasitic Worms May Treat Crohn's and Colitis
Implications of this research
The next logical step would be to determine both the advantages and disadvantages to treatment with living parasites, as well as to identify the elements that contribute to their protective effect. In turn, using this type of treatment to imitate the body’s immune response to worms can later result in the same helpful approach to identifying the bacterial population within the intestine – possibly without the use of worms.
