New Orleans Saints' Michael Mauti Saves Career Despite Losing Large Intestine

His father is "taken aback" by his perseverance

Although Mauti did not make the New Orleans’ opening week roster out of training camp, he was re-signed in October and has been a regular on special teams. He made his mark in 2015, when he blocked a punt against Atlanta. His father, former Saints receiver Rich Mauti, is extremely proud of his son’s achievements and impressed by his openness about his digestive problems. “It’s nothing short of remarkable he’s back on the field. As a parent, I’m even taken aback,” said Rich. “It’s a tough thing to talk about. For him to come out was very, very difficult. There are a lot of people out there who have it and you would never know. There are a lot of people suffering with it, so he’s going to have a tremendous impact,” he added.
