High blood pressure and sleep apnea are related. While they may seem like two totally different conditions, sleep apnea can interfere with many systems in your body. When sleeping with sleep apnea, the airway in your throat will become blocked. The lack of air causes extra pressure on the blood vessels, heart, and nervous system. This in turn makes the heart work faster and increase blood pressure. This phenomenon is dangerous because it may cause heart failure or a stroke. Therefore, it is a condition that may cause or increase high blood pressure. If you were diagnosed with high blood pressure, you may want to consider its relation to sleep apnea.
