What Do Your Sleep Habits Say About Your Physical and Mental Health?

If you constantly toss and turn, you could have an overactive thyroid.

We discussed the problems with an underactive thyroid, and how that can impact your sleep and energy levels, but having an overactive thyroid can be equally problematic, and even lead to tossing and turning.

If you are concerned that you might have an overactive thyroid, there are some signs to look out for. Nervousness can be present, as well as fatigue. This is due to the alterations in your hormones caused by an overactive thyroid, which is also why your sleep quality changes. You may also notice an increased appetite, resulting in weight gain. While gaining a few pounds is not usually a problem, you should talk to your doctor if these issues persist or become unmanageable. Also be sure to look out for an increased heart rate and high blood pressure.

One of the clearest signs are goiters, the enlargement of the thyroid, but it is important to note that that does not necessarily indicate a problem.
