Promising 'Stop Switch' Discovered that Could Stop Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in its Tracks

Why is the switch defective for patients who get aggressive lymphoma?

Despite having a stop switch present, why do people with T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma have such aggressive cancers? The scientists were able to find the answer to this question. They looked at gene data from 150 patients who were diagnosed with this lymphoma to see if there were any problems with their DNA coding for this particular protein. Based on their results, over 30% of the patients had detectable changes in the areas of their DNA which directly interfered with the production of PD-1 protein.
