Understanding Pain in Diabetic Neuropathy

The Early Years

Around the 1880's doctors began to see a pattern with patients with diabetes and continual pain.  This pain was often rooted in a numbness in limps or areas of the body.  If it persisted the whole limb would be rendered useless as the pain damaged the body more and more.

The pains do not always present itself in the same way.  Some people have lightning pains throughout the day.  Others find certain touches or areas of contact to be the cause of pain.  Clothing can be a great irritant whether it is tight or simply brushing against the skin.  There have been instances where people feel as if the pain is inside of their bones.
