Vitamin A Linked to Severe Inflammation of the Gut

Results of the study

The study revealed that ISX is responsible for activating on and off genes in the beta-carotene metabolic pathway of vitamin A. ISX senses and turns off the gene that expresses the enzyme Bco1, which is responsible for transforming beta-carotene into vitamin A. In this way, it stops the transformation process and ensures that the right amount of beta-carotene is released into the body. As a result, most of the beta-carotene is removed from the gastrointestinal tract.
