The Different Ways of Testing for Duchenne and the Appearance of a New Method

History of newborn screening

It is not the first time newborn screening for Duchenne has been adopted as a method to diagnose it. Until 2011 the method was available in Wales but they stop using it due to the percentage of missed cases. Up to a 20% of all cases trying to be diagnosed via screening were missed and in other countries the tests showed positive results on kids that were not actually suffering from Duchenne. From there on the requirement of developing a more reliable method for diagnosis became a priority.
