What Does Being a Hero Mean to Someone with Cystic Fibrosis?

The strongest people with CF still suffer

Being called a hero sometimes isn't fair to others either. Brad explains that the strongest, most willful person with cystic fibrosis might still die simply because they were unlucky and their disease manifested in a bad way. For Brad, it happened to him too. Despite his hardest efforts and continued support from friends and family, he continued to see his lung function decline. Though it was completely out of his control, he felt like he was letting everyone down because he was "losing the battle". Worse yet, he wanted to put on his strongest, happiest face on to continue being the hero everyone wanted. It was an emotional experience and he realized it was actually hurting him to try to be the hero all the time.
