Weight Gain May Prolong Protection From Worsening Symptoms Among Cystic Fibrosis Patients

How does gaining weight combat pulmonary exacerbation?

Malnutrition, along with pulmonary exacerbations, are experienced by many cystic fibrosis patients. Therefore, researchers considered that maybe the two conditions were tied. The association of nutrition and lung function have previously been proven by studies, but the function of weight gain alongside nutrition and diet had not yet been studied in relation to pulmonary clinical outcomes. So, researchers decided there could very likely be important information to be found.

These researchers set out to prove that cystic fibrosis patients who gained weight would fare better in their clinical outcomes than those who did not gain weight during treatment for pulmonary exacerbations.
