NSF Disease

Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis is a disease that affects people with advanced acute kidney failure. It is also common to those undergoing dialysis. This condition is mainly characterized by patches of thick skin. 

Since the disease can the vital organs, people with Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis typically experience joint contracture or shortening of tendons and muscles. The disease is linked to the use of gadolinium-positive contrast agents in MRI scans on patients with advanced kidney failure.

The symptoms of Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis include:

• spots of hardened skin,
• joint contractures that causes joint pain,
• limited range of motion.

Severe cases of NSF usually affect internal organs, such as the heart, lungs, and liver.
