Styes and chalazia are tender, but painful red bumps in or along the edge of an eyelid. These are not serious but may be very painful and irritating. Most of these bumps resolve without specific treatments.
- Stye is an infection that results in the formation of a red bump on the eyelid, especially on the edges. When this happens inside the eyelid, it is referred to as internal hordeolum
- Chalazion is a large, but painless, bump in the eyelid
Both the conditions may be related to blepharitis, a condition that results in inflammation of the eyelids.
