Benzamycin Pak

Benzamycin Pak, is a product used in the treatment of acne.

This medications is a combination of two products – Erythromycin, which is causing the growth-process of the acne-causing bacteria to stop, and Benzoyl Peroxide, which also causes the growth-process of the acne-causing bacteria to stop, and also causes the top layer of skin to dry and fall off, so that a new layer of skin to be formed. Alcohol is also present in this product, causing the extra oils from the skin to dry.

Before using Benzamycin Pak, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it.

You need to get informed about the potential beneficial effects of this product as well as of the potential risks and side effects. As always, the potential beneficial effects need to outweigh the potential risks in order the decision for this medicine to be used to be made. While consulting your doctor, make sure to inform him about:

• Allergies – Inform your doctor about any allergic reactions that you may have experienced in the past while using any medications, prescribed or no prescribed. Also, inform the healthcare professional about any allergic reactions to any specific food, dye, fabric and etc.
• Pediatric – There are no studies which would confirm if this product is safe to be used within children younger than 12 years of age. Using this product within pediatric patients requires extra caution.
• Geriatric – There are no studies which would confirm if this product is safe to be used within geriatric patients. Using this product within geriatric patients requires extra caution.
• Drug interaction – Certain medications should not be used in a combination with others. Because of this, do not forget to inform your doctor about any other medications that you have been using it the past, or you are still using in the present, prescribed or no prescribed, even vitamins and herbal tea.
• Other interactions – Certain medications should not be used in combination with certain food, alcohol and tobacco. Inform yourself if there is a need for any special diet to be followed during the treatment with Erythromycin and Benzoyl Peroxide, as well as if the usage of alcohol and/or tobacco should be discontinued.
• Other medical problems – Inform your doctor about your medical history, any other medical problems and conditions present in the past or at the moment. Especially, inform the doctor if any of the following conditions are present: Diarrhea or fungal infections.

To use Benzamycin Pak correctly, you must follow all instructions given by your doctor.

This product is in the form of gel. It should be only used on the skin, and it mustn’t be used around the mouth, eyes, nose, or other mucous membranes. Get directions on how to apply the product properly. Because this medication contains two products, in the packaging there may be two individual compartments present. Before use you need to mix this two compartments together. Before you start applying the medication, it is very important to:

• Wash your hands with warm water and soap. This is also needed after the applying is finished.
• The washing with warm water and soap it is also required for the areas which will be treated with the medicine.

Apply the gel on the affected area, covering the whole area, not just the pimples. Avoid touching and washing the covered areas after the applying is finished. The doctor will determine the needed dosage based on your condition and the response to the treatment. The usual dose is twice daily, often applied in the morning and at night. Remember to use the medication regularly. If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. Do not double the dose. This medicine could be dangerous if it is swallowed. If this happens, contact your doctor right away.

In using Benzamycin Pak, you must be careful and take some precautions as advised by your doctor.

Visit your doctor at your scheduled appointments so that the doctor can track the prognosis of your condition. The doctor may decide to discontinue the treatment or make some adjustments to the dosage. Make sure you inform your doctor about any allergic reactions to any medications in the past.

This is important because this product may contain inactive substances that could cause an allergic reaction. Using this product may increase the sensitivity to the sun, because of this it is very important to apply sun cream with protective factor before you expose yourself to the sun, and also wear protective clothing. Because there are no studies which confirm if this product is safe to be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it should be only used in cases when the potential beneficial effects outweigh the potential risks.

Using make up during the treatment could make your acne worse. Avoid using make up during the treatment, or if needed, you should only use oil-free make up.

As with many medications, there are several potential side effects associated with Benzamycin Pak. The side effects do not occur within every patient, also they could be mild or serious. It is important to get informed about the potential side effects and risks from your doctor. That way, you will be able to notice their presence and inform the doctor as soon as possible. Depending on the side effects, the doctor may decide to discontinue the treatment with this product, make adjustments to the dosage or prescribe other medications that could help with the side effects.

While using this product, it is expected the presence of dry skin and peeling of the top layer of the skin. There are some side effects that appear only in the beginning of the treatment, as the body adjusts to the medication. These side effects are – skin irritation, itching, burning, or redness, eye or skin discoloring are also expected, but if this side effects get worse, inform the doctor right away. Increased sensitivity to the sun is also expected to appear. A serious allergic reaction is not common, but if you notice any of the following symptoms contact your doctor right away – swelling of the feet, hands, face, tongue, skin rash, dizziness, trouble breathing and etc. Other symptoms may also be present.
