Brand: Floxin Otic

Generic: Ofloxacin Otic Solution

Floxin Otic is an ear solution for the treatment of infections such as otitis externa and otitis media. This drug is available as an otic solution containing ofloxacin 3 milligrams in 1 milliliter.

Instructions

This medication should be applied to the affected ear/s as prescribed by the physician. Do not apply to eyes. Do not swallow, inject, or inhale the medication. Before applying to the ear, cleanse the ear canal well and remove crusts or other materials in the ear. Wash your hands before application.

To make sure that the right amount of medication is given, instruct another person to administer the drops if possible. Hold the container in your hand for a few minutes in order to warm it so that you will not feel dizzy afterwards. Do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your ear or other objects.

Position yourself by lying on your side or tilt your affected ear upward. Hold the dropper directly over the ear, and place the drops into the ear canal as directed by the doctor. To help the drops roll easily into the ear of an adult, hold the earlobe up and back.

In the case of children, one should hold the earlobe down and back.

Keep the head tilted for about 2 minutes, or insert a piece of cotton with your doctor’s permission to keep the drops in contact with your ear canal.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as prescribed by your doctor or as stated on the package label.
