Generic: Ammonium Lactate

Hydrolac is a skin treatment used for dry, scaly skin (xerosis) and ichthyosis vulgaris and for the temporary relief of itching associated with these conditions.

This drug is available as a cream containing ammonium lactate 120 milligram in 1 gram and as a lotion containing ammonium lactate 200 milligram in 1 gram.

Instructions

Your dosage is based on your medical condition and the way you will respond to treatment. Take this drug regularly to experience the most benefits. You should also use this drug at the same time each day.

This drug is to be applied to the skin only. Avoid using it on the face, groin, or underarms, or for diaper rash, unless told so by your doctor.

  • First, wash and dry your hand before applying. The affected area should be cleansed and dried.
  • The medication should be applied as a thin film to be gently rubbed in, as instructed by your doctor.
  • Avoid covering or wrapping the treated are.
  • Wash your hands after use.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth or mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water.

If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. Continue to use it as prescribed by your doctor or as stated on the package label.

Interactions

Ammonium lactate may interact with prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use. Tell your doctor if you are using other drugs aside from Ammonium lactate.

Side Effects

There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.

Watch out for signs of allergic reactions such as:

  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:

  • Allergy to ammonium lactate
  • Wounds or sores on the skin
  • Photosensitivity
  • Pregnancy or lactation
