Neocidin

Neocidin is used in treating eye infections. This medicine is only available with a doctor’s prescription.

Your doctor will inform you of what you need to know before using Neocidin. The risks and benefits the medicine offer must be weighed. Before using this medicine, you and your doctor must consider the following:

Allergies

If you have any unusual reaction to any medicine, be sure to tell your doctor about it. Additionally, disclose other types of allergies - foods, preservatives, animals, or dyes, if there are any. Read the package ingredients carefully and make sure you are not allergic to any of its ingredients.

Pediatric

No adequate studies have been done in children to determine safety and efficacy of use in pediatric patients.

Geriatric

No adequate studies have been done in the elderly to determine safety and efficacy of use in older patients.

Pregnancy

Use of this medicine is not recommended during pregnancy as studies show possible risk to developing a fetus.

Breastfeeding

While there are no specific studies done in lactating women to determine the risk of using this drug to the breastfeeding infant, you may weigh the potential benefits against the risks before using this drug.

Drug Interactions

Certain medicines have adverse effects when used together. Nevertheless, it is still possible to take other medicines when taking this drug. Make sure to inform your doctor about other drugs you are taking, so that alterations and precautions will be made if necessary.

Using this with certain medicines needs utmost caution because the combination may result in certain side effects. Before taking this drug, talk to your doctor about possible interactions if you are taking other medications, both prescription and over-the-counter.

To use Neocidin properly, you must follow all instructions given by your doctor. The dropper is partially full, providing proper drop control during application. To use the eye drops, you have to start with clean hands. Tilt back your head and pull the lower eyelid away from the eye, forming a pouch. Drop the solution into the pouch and close your eyes gently.

Close your eyes for about 1 to 2 minutes to allow the solution “soak” the infection. Do not blink. If you feel the drop did not get into the eye properly, apply another drop. Wash hands immediately after application. Do not let the tip applicator come in contact with any surface. Cover the container and keep it tightly closed.

Dosage

In treating eye infection in adults and children, apply 1 drop in each (affected) eye. Repeat application two to four times a day for 7-10 days. For serious eye infections, your doctor may advise applying one drop per eye every 15-30 minutes.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. In case it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and follow your regular dosing schedule.

Storage

Keep the medicine in an airtight container at normal room temperature. Keep it away from direct light, heat, and moisture. Do not let it freeze. Keep the medicine out of children’s reach. Throw away any outdated medicine or medicine that are not in use.

In using Neocidin, you must be careful and take some precautions as advised by your doctor. Consult your doctor if symptoms persist or become worse.

As with many medications, there are several potential side effects associated with Neocidin. You may experience some side effects that may not need special medical attention. However, if any side effects become bothersome, check with your doctor.
