1 What is Omnaris?

Omnaris nasal spray is a steroid for the treatment of itchy or a runny nose, sneezing, or other symptoms caused by hay fever or allergic rhinitis.

This drug works by preventing the inflammation that occurs with allergic reactions. This drug requires a prescription.

2 What to Know Before Using

Before using DRUG, you must know all about the risks and complications associated with it. Inform your healthcare provider for any allergic reactions to these drugs or any other drugs, foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. Carefully read the label of non-prescription drugs for any possible allergic reaction or contraindications.

  • Studies have not been performed regarding pediatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of Zetonna and Omnaris in children with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis while the safety and efficacy of these drugs have not been established in children younger than 12 years of age.
  • Studies have not been performed regarding geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of ciclesonide nasal spray in the elderly. Caution is required for elderly patients that are using this drug for age-related liver, kidney, or heart problems are prevalent in this age group.
  • Adverse effects have been noted in animal studies but there are no adequate studies in pregnant women or animals regarding these effects. Infant risk is still undetermined when using this medication during breastfeeding. Weigh the potential benefits against the potential risks before taking this medication while breastfeeding.

Drugs should not be taken together to prevent any interactions but in necessary cases inquire your healthcare provider regarding the adjustments in dosage or any other necessary precautions to prevent any unwanted side effects. Inform your healthcare professional if you are taking any other drugs.

Intake of specific food or using alcohol or tobacco with this drug is associated with an increased risk of certain side effects. Your healthcare professional can give you special instructions about the use of food, alcohol, or tobacco.

3 Proper Usage

Proper usage of Omnaris requires strict adherence to your doctor’s orders. The dose of this drug will be variable for different patients. The directions on the label or the prescription by your healthcare professional should be followed.

Only administer this drug nasally and prevent unnecessary contact with eyes, on the nasal septum, or on your skin. Rinse it off right away and call your doctor if contact is made in these areas.

You will feel the effects of this drug in 2 days, but up to 2 weeks may pass before you feel the full effects. If you have other nose problems, consult with your doctor first before taking this drug.

Shake the canister gently before each use.Prime the spray if you have not used Zetonna for 10 days.

  1. Empty your nose before using the spray.
  2. Tilt your head back slightly and insert the tip of the nose piece into your nostril.
  3. Close the opposite nostril with a finger.
  4. Release 1 spray and at the same time, breathe in gently through the nostril.
  5. Hold your breath for a few seconds then breathe out slowly through your mouth.
  6. Spray the opposite nostril using the same steps.
  7. Do not blow your nose for 15 minutes after using the spray.

Wipe the tip of the outside of the nose piece with a clean, dry tissue or cloth and put the cap back on.

A yellow color indicates that your drug needs to be replaced soon. A red color will indicate that your drug is empty.

This drug has a maximum of 60 sprays. The dosage of this medicine will be different for different patients. The directions on the label or the prescription by your healthcare professional should be followed.

The dosage of this drug you take depends on the medical problem for which you are using this drug.

Adults, teenagers, and children with rhinitis are prescribed with either 2 sprays of Omnaris in each nostril once a day or 1 spray of Zetonna in each nostril once a day.

Each spray contains 37 micrograms and the total dose should be not more than 74 mcg in each nostril per day.A missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. However, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule if it is almost time for your next dose.

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing. Keep out of the reach of children. Dispose any outdated or expired drugs and ask your healthcare professional for the proper disposal of the drugs.

4 Precautions to Take

Before using Omnaris, there are some precautions you must take. Regular visits and laboratory tests should be made to your healthcare provider to track your progress and to monitor the effectiveness of this drug as well as check for unwanted effects.

Consult with your doctor immediately if you or your child has bloody mucus, sores inside the nose, unexplained nosebleeds, or a whistling sound when you breathe while taking this drug. Avoid being around people who are sick or have infections such as chickenpox or measles or if you have never had these infections as this drug can lower your resistance.

Inform your healthcare provider if have been exposed to chickenpox or measles or have white patches in the throat, or pain when you eat or swallow, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, throat, arms, or legs, or if you are having trouble swallowing or breathing while you are taking this drug.

This drug may retard growth in children, immediately consult your health care professional if this happens. This drug may be associated with the risk of developing adrenal suppression due to circulating steroid levels.

Consult with your healthcare professional right away if you or your child has symptoms such as:

Rarely, menstrual cycle changes, acne, pimples, or weight gain around the face, neck, and trunk, blurred vision, difficulty in reading, or any other change in vision occurs during or after treatment.

Your healthcare professional may refer you to an ophthalmologist to have your eyes.

5 Potential Side Effects

As with many medications, there are several potential side effects associated with Omnaris. Side effects may vary for each individual and prompt medical attention should be given if they occur.

Inform your healthcare professional if you have symptoms:

  • Bloody nose
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle aches
  • Nasal discomfort
  • Sore throat
  • Stuffy or a runny nose
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness
  • Acne or Pimples
  • Blindness
  • Blistering
  • Burning
  • Crusting
  • Dryness or Flaking of the skin
  • Bloody mucus or unexplained nosebleeds
  • Blurred vision
  • Change in vision
  • Darkening of the skin
  • Decreased vision
  • Diarrhea
  • Difficulty with breathing or troubled breathing
  • Difficulty with swallowing dizziness
  • Eye pain
  • Fainting
  • Hives, Itching, Scaling, Severe redness, Soreness, or Swelling of the skin
  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Loss of vision
  • Menstrual changes
  • Mental depression
  • Nausea
  • Reddening of the skin, especially around the ears
  • Skin rash
  • Swelling of the eyes, eyelids, face, or inside of the nose tearing
  • Tightness in the chest
  • Vomiting
  • Weight gain around the face, neck, and trunk
  • Wheezing
  • White patches inside the nose or throat

These may occur that usually do not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine, the side effects will slowly disappear. Ask your healthcare professional about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects.
