Pentasa is a drug used in the treatment of active mild to moderate distal ulcerative colitis, proctosigmoiditis or proctitis. This drug is available as a suspension containing mesalamine 4 grams in 60 milliliters.

  • Probenecid

Side Effects:

There are no side effects known aside from a possible allergic reaction in people who have previous or unknown hypersensitivity to the drug.

Watch out for signs of allergic reactions such as:

  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Swelling

Warnings:

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have the following:

  • Allergy to mesalamine
  • Allergy to sulfasalazine, olsalazine or to other salicylates such as aspirin

  • Pancreas problems

  • Urinary problems
  • Pregnancy or lactation
