1 What is Teslascan?

Teslascan is an MRI contrast agent also known as a paramagnetic agent. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) uses magnets and computer to take an image of required part of the body.

Teslascan helps by providing a clear MRI. It is available in the solution form and given only by or under doctor’s supervision.

2 What to Know Before Using

If you are about to start Teslascan, speak with your doctor about what you need to know.

Before starting the treatment your doctor should be informed about condition such as:

Allergy: Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any food, preservatives, dyes, or had an allergic reaction when you used this drug before.

Children: There are no adequate studies done which prove Mangafodipir’s harmful effects in children above 12 years of age. However, safety and efficacy have not been established for children under12 years of age.

Elderly: There are no adequate studies done which prove Mangafodipir’s effects in elderly patients are the same as younger patients, or not.

Pregnancy: It is a category C drug. It is not safe in pregnancy. It may cause harmful effects to an unborn baby.

Breast Feeding: There are no adequate studies which prove that Mangafodipir passes into breast milk. If you are using it while nursing, discuss it with your doctor for possible risk factors.

Drug Interactions: Mangafodipir may interact with other drugs. Your doctor should be informed of any other medicines which you are taking. He/she may want to change the dosage or drug.

Other Medical Problem: Several other conditions may reduce its effectiveness.

Make sure you inform your doctor of conditions such as:

  • History of allergic reaction while using Mangafodipir
  • History of nausea and vomiting while using it
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (acid coming up into mouth from stomach)

3 Proper Usage

Proper usage of Teslascan requires strict adherence to your doctor’s orders. It is given as an injection into your vein by a doctor or a health care professional just before MRI. Doses are different for different people depending upon body weight of a person.

4 Precautions to Take

In using Teslascan, you must be careful and take some precautions as advised by your doctor. Teslascan may cause allergic reactions.

Inform your doctor immediately if you start having:

  • rash
  • itching
  • fainting
  • palpitation
  • swelling of hand, face or mouth

Your doctor may perform a pregnancy test before using it to make sure you are not pregnant.

5 Potential Side Effects

Make sure you meet with your doctor in using Teslascan to avoid unwanted potential side effects. Some people may experience none or minor side effects.

  • Injection site reaction
  • Pain
  • Skin itching, rash or redness
