#MeToo. Men Share Their Stories of Persevering Through Sexual Assault

"What can you do to make the best out of a really bad situation? For me, it’s always been trying to help others."

By the age of 13, *Brandon was ready to come out as gay and begin exploring what this means for him. Soon after, he began dating a man a decade older than him. It wasn’t until later that he had realized the abuse that was tied into this unhealthy relationship. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the only sexual abuse Brandon would face as a 13 year boy. After going out for a night with friends, he found himself alone, ambushed, physically restrained, and raped by an unknown person. Desperate to “bury” his trauma, Brandon turned to alcohol. Depression began seeping into his life, and during a physical altercation with his stepfather, his trauma surfaced and led him to have suicidal thoughts.

With the help and support of those around him and the will to persevere past his trauma, Brandon has now found a sense a peace. Passionate about continuing to grow and help others, he is now pre-med and is excited to enjoy a career in medicine.
