Real Stories of Teen Suicide that Will Make You Think

Rutgers Student Tyler Clementi committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge

18-year-old Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi committed suicide in September, 2010, by jumping off the George Washington Bridge. Ten minutes before his untimely death, the young man posted a Facebook status stating, “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.”

The shy freshman became suicidal after a serious invasion of privacy. Two other freshman students recorded and streamed an online video of a sexual act between Clementi and another man in his dorm room, without Clementi’s knowledge or consent.

Clementi is remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and generous young man with an incredible talent for playing the violin. His family founded a non-profit organization, the Tyler Clementi Foundation, to prevent online and offline bullying and promote the inclusion and acceptance of vulnerable, LGBT youth."
