How to tell you need a social media break
It seems pretty apparent social media won’t be going away any time soon, so while engaging in it regularly may not pose a problem, it’s important to recognize when such activities are taking a physical and/or emotional toll on you and to step away for a while. The most obvious indicator of a social media obsession is an inability to put down your phone. Whether you’re relaxing at home or out with friends, if you’re constantly tweeting or Instagramming in your spare moments, you need to take a break.
Often times, though, emotional distress offers a clearer image of an unhealthy relationship with social media. Being anxious when you’re not online; feeling stressed out all the time; constantly thinking about updating your status; frequently comparing yourself to others — all of these are negative consequences of obsessively using social media. When your happiness becomes dependent on others’ approval, that’s the time to take a break from the internet.
