What These Social Media Habits Reveal About Your Personality

Obsessed with posting pictures of food? You could have an eating disorder.

Although seemingly innocent, pictures of food frequently appearing on someone’s social media feed may be a sign of mental illness, specifically, eating disorders. Instagramming meals is a popular trend, and while there’s nothing wrong with appreciating a good meal, obsessing over it is a growing problem. This bad habit becomes apparent when an individual’s social media photos focus solely on their food and completely disregard the surrounding environment and the company involved. A few years ago, the famous Dr. Oz suggested a connection between “food porn” and weight gain, but more recent research has pointed to the exact opposite: people who have neurotic tendencies and need to obtain the best shot of their food and show it off to others could actually have a predisposition for eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia. However, there is not a great deal of evidence to support this, and studies are still being conducted to determine whether or not there is a connection between the two.
