The Real Origins of These 20 Strange Phobias

Genuphobia: Fear of knees or kneeling

If you are dating someone with genuphobia, it's a pretty safe bet that they won't be kneeling down if they propose to you.

Genuphobia is the fear of either knees or kneeling. Sometimes people are only afraid of their own knees, while others are afraid of everyone's.

Normally, like most phobias, the fear arises from a negative experience. This could be a knee injury, seeing someone else hurt their knee during an accident or sporting event, having a close friend with knee problems, or even watching someone's knee caps get broken in a movie (hopefully not in real life!).

It is also possible for genuphobia to arise from certain religions in which you are not allowed to show your knees, or look at anyone else's should they be exposed.

Genuphobia can lead to insecurity in one's own body, as it is so difficult to keep your knees covered at all times. The constant urge to "cover up" can be debilitating.
