The Real Origins of These 20 Strange Phobias

Nomophobia: Fear of being without your phone

Your parents have probably complained at one point or another that you have nomophobia, even if they did not use the technical term.

Nomophobia is the fear of being without your phone, which can occur in a few ways. It could be about the physical separation from your phone, the phone being lost, or not being able to use your phone - even if it's right in your pocket, like the battery dying, not having signal, or the phone breaking.

Over half of mobile phone users feel anxious when they are not able to use their phones, meaning that the phobia is very common. This is due to an increasing reliance on the devices to reach out to others, connect to the outside world, stay up to date on news, make plans, navigate, calculate, and even pay. Without mobile devices, people are not able to get around or function as well as they could beforehand.
