He's Lying Next To You...The Difference Between Psychopaths, Sociopaths, and Narcissists

Not every psychopath and sociopath is a criminal

Not all psychopaths or sociopaths are criminals. In fact, most are law-abiding citizens. They can appear completely normal, even to those closest to them.

Sociopathic traits exist on a continuum. Some sociopaths are more sociopathic than others. Additionally, sociopathy can manifest in different ways. For some sociopaths, the condition will manifest as violent or criminal behavior. However, for other sociopaths, the condition might manifest as an aggressive pursuit of professional and personal success. Sociopaths and psychopaths who grow up in relatively stable and loving homes are less likely to exhibit violent or criminal behavior later in life.

Sociopathic traits can even be beneficial in certain situations. A sociopath’s confidence and assertiveness can help him get ahead and be successful in his career. Sociopathic tendencies are especially common among businessmen, politicians, and law enforcement officers.
