Pay attention to detail.
Transcribing is a big part of providing care. At the end of a shift, the nursing staff needs to transcribe all of their notes. But, this is where all the mistakes can be made. Chances are, that the nurses on duty are exhausted and just want to finish their day and go home. These mistakes made while transcribing information or notes are also punishable. This means that the nurses are entirely liable if they make a mistake, especially if it pertains to any medication or procedure that can harm a patient.
Don’t be afraid to double check it. Check in with the charge nurse or even better, double check with the doctor. This is also the time to read and re-read the transcription to make sure all the information on file is correct.
