Self-Reporting Systems Improve Patient Safety

More web-based systems need to be in place

At Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, or MS-KCC, they have a myriad of patient safety and quality initiatives that have resulted in a major increase in reporting in the past several years. They found that out of the plethora of different initiatives offered, the one that was the most effective was the implication of a web-based reporting system and they continued efforts to give the information back to the direct-care staff. It makes sense, after all. Moving to a web-based system appeases any fears around someone being able to identify the report based on handwriting or pen color. The importance of returning the data to the direct-staff also allows for the employees to understand the importance of reporting.
