Where did parents show improvement?
Specifically, parents showed improvements in their own mental well-being, mindfulness, emotion regulation, and how they thought about their children.
One parent who participated in the study, Jessica Jannarone, reported a significant change in her mindfulness.
“I have grown as much as my son did,” said Jannarone. “I used to use a ‘one size fits all’ strategy with my son. Now he and I have many tools to manage through difficult moments. The ability to talk about our feelings, identify triggers, and think proactively about approaches has brought both positivity and comfort to our lives.”
The York University study was published in the Journal of Autism and Development Disorders.
