But, there were some internet challenges that raised awareness and money
Not every social-media fad that went viral has been negative. Socially conscious challenges like No Shave November and the Ice Bucket Challenge swept the internet and raised awareness and donations for worthy causes. No Shave November raises awareness and funds for prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. In the summer of 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge raised $115 million for the ALS Association, bringing awareness and funding for research about the devastating disease.
These challenges are excellent examples of the positive impact made possible by social media and the ability to spread ideas online. Just as social media and the Internet can be used to spread hazardous information to impressionable kids and teens, these same platforms can also be used to educate children and teens about important issues and encourage them to get involved in promoting positive social change.
