Jacqueline's decision to film
After going through a brief period of grieving, the Lauritas faced Nicholas’s diagnosis head on. When faced with the decision of filming, Jacqueline said, “I never wanted Nicholas to feel ashamed of his diagnosis, so I was willing to make it public from the get go.” But bringing an autistic child into a reality TV show did make her nervous.
She was concerned with how the producers would portray Nicholas and their family. Chris said it was a tough decision for him. But he saw the show as an opportunity to bring autism to the surface and to raise awareness. They wanted to use their platform to bring out the diagnosis.
