The Heartbreak of Pediatric Cancer: Parents Share their Pictures and Stories

Lilly Ibbotson knows the true meaning of strength

Young Lily Ibbotson is a prime example that people of any age can show true courage in the face of great adversity. At two years of age, she was rushed to the emergency room due to breathing problems. The ensuing X-ray revealed a large mass in her chest that, unfortunately, the doctors were unable to remove through surgery due to its size. Lily endured four rounds of chemotherapy and was even placed into a medically induced coma for two weeks at one point.

By the time her last session of cancer treatment ended in July, 2016, her tumor had shrunk 60% and is monitored every three months. Lily’s mother hopes for the day when her daughter’s scans will come back clean. But until then, she knows Lily will keep a smile on her face and her chin up, displaying an incredible level of bravery few see in the average adult.
