Tips for Parents Raising a Child With Diabetes

Exercise

Exercise is vital for children with diabetes. This helps keep their blood sugar levels down. Diabetic children need to be well-informed that they need to do a certain amount of exercise at suitable times. Parents should also know how to adjust their treatment in order to accommodate a time for exercise.

Sports and Physical Activities

If your child’s blood sugar level is in a normal range, there is no reason why they shouldn’t get involved in sports. As mentioned, exercise is important for children with diabetes. It will help your child stay healthy and fit. Playing sports is also good for their social life. Sports can lower your child’s blood sugar. Thus, make sure your child tests his/her blood prior to playing sports. They should not play sports if their sugar level is low or high. Make them start when their sugar level becomes normal.
