Helping Kids Cope with Celiac Disease

Talk to caretakers, parents, and teachers in advance to avoid uncomfortable situations

Sometimes parents may host events such as a birthday party, and everyone would be eating cake. It can be tempting for him/her to taste it too. Whoever is responsible for the child should be informed in advance, so that gluten-free needs are observed at all times. If possible, a gluten-free treat can be sent along so that they may enjoy too during the social situations.

Find events and camps that are dedicated to protecting gluten-free

Participating in these events will help a child stop worrying about cross-contamination and being different from others.

Include her when decorating cupcakes or baking cookies for her class

When baking goodies, involve her so that she may know that it is real food and cooking them can be fun just like ‘regular’ food.
