MDA Summer Camp: The Summer of a Lifetime for Muscular Dystrophy Patients

The Power of Communication

Being diagnosed with a chronic muscle-wasting illness brings just as much emotional damage as physical ones. As Duchenne muscular dystrophy commonly affects boys who are too young to deal with such devastating reality, keeping an open and honest line of communication is of paramount importance to help them cope. Allowing patients to speak their mind about their illness does not only help them in letting go of negative emotions but also in getting a sense of security, that they are covered in case they need support.
