Tips for Parents Raising a Child With Diabetes

Ensure your child is cared for in school and at school trips

School trips and activities outside schools

Your child should not be exempted from school trips just because of their condition. If you can’t be there, someone who can provide support for your child’s needs should be on the trip. Staff on the trip must be aware of your child’s condition. Risk assessment should also be carried out a few hours before the trip. This is recommended to ensure your child's diabetes is well-controlled.

Ensure that your child has the proper diabetes care at school

To reiterate this important rule, your child's school needs to know about your child’s condition. The school has to know what type of care your child needs in school. It will be best if you can provide an Individual Healthcare Plan (IHP). Detail all the vital information about your child's diabetes.
