Tips for Parents Raising a Child With Diabetes

Make sure the school is aware

Your child’s school should recognize that your child needs to do some blood tests or have snacks at specific times. They have to make allowances for this. Your child should also have access to appropriate facilities in order to properly perform blood tests or injections.

Set expectations for school absences

The school should understand that your child may be absent from school due to some clinic appointments or occurrences of low or high blood sugar. These absences will be rare if your child’s blood sugar level is fairly well controlled.
