Rheumatologist (Pediatric) Questions knee pain

Why is my 8 year old son complaining of knee pain?

My son is 8 years old and is complaining of knee pain. I have gotten the X-rays done and they seem to be all clear. What other tests should I do?

Definitely MRI
MRI without contrast
Could be so called “growing” pain especially if it is worse at night. If patient continues or worsens with exercise, an MRI of the knee would be the next step.
Depending on the symptoms, your orthopedic surgeon may order an MRI of the knee.
You have to do a strep test, serologic tests for Lime disease, MRI of the knee(s), and tests for juvenile arthritis.
Thank you.
You need to discuss with your pediatrician who will decide based on the physical exam and the laboratory values, what is the next step and whether your son needs to be referred to a specialist such as an orthopedic surgeon or a rheumatologist.
