Dentist Questions Canker Sores

Any treatments for canker sores?

My dentist diagnosed canker sores on my tongue. After 2 weeks, they are still not healed so I went to an oral surgeon. Same diagnosis, canker sores. Why are these taking so long to heal? What are some treatments for canker sores?

There are many products for canker sores from OTC to laser treatments that will remove it at the time of visit.
They usually take at least two weeks to heal, but when it’s on you tongue when you eat or speak and move your tongue, you will continue to move the ulceration causing prolonged discomfort. Also be sure to minimize any acidic food or drinks as they will be a constant source of pain.

Canker sores heal better when treatment is started as soon as they appear. Warm salt water works very well. There are also medications you can get at the pharmacy. If they are in a spot that gets a lot of movement, they can take time to heal. It is always good to have an oral surgeon check them when they persist to make sure they are just sores.
Soft tissue laser treatments performed at a dental office have been very effective in treating these painful sores. We have great success with this treatment.
Probably not canker sores. The term "canker sore" is a lay term for aphthous ulcer which usually occurs on unattached mucosa such as the inside of the cheek or lip. Lesions on the tongue are usually of a viral nature such as herpetic lesions or autoimmune responses. If the dentists you are seeing do not recommend something to treat the symptoms, look for an Oral Pathologist which would be at a local Dental School or large hospital.
Time is the best healer for canker sores. You can try a warm saltwater rinse too. Multiple sores or having sores often may mean that you have a Folate deficiency.
Good day,

The following website gives a quite clear info about canker sore:

I advise you to use Chlorhexidine mouthwash (such as Corsodyl) to rinse the mouth, and apply oral gel on the ulcer. It should heal soon.

Slow healing can be because of improper maintenance of cleaning, or sometimes the care is not being taken care of properly
