Family Practitioner Questions Protein shakes

Are protein shakes good for health?

My son is 13 years old and insists on having protein shakes to build his body muscle. Are these shakes recommended for such young kids?

This may take some help from a dietician. A growing body should be between 1.0 and 1.3 mg/kg of body weight of protein daily. So, an average 150lb male should have about 80mg protein daily. Any more may be detrimental.
No but they won't do any harm if done in moderation
Most OTC protein drinks are okay, for teens, but they need to drink plenty of water and get enough carbs for normal metabolism to not stay in ketosis, which makes them easier to get sick and can harm their kidneys.
