Are there any medications for obesity?

I have obesity. Are there any medications for obesity?

1 Answer

Absolutely. Believe it or not, we have not found any medications as safe, affordable or as effective as what came out over 50 years ago. Those patients that I have who required medications to assist them have done tremendously well with them along with healthy eating (more protein and less carbs) along with improved activity levels. I recommend finding a good bariatrician near you who can help with your specific needs and determine if you are a candidate for medication assisted help with your journey. There are some newer medications available, but I have found them to be very expensive and they have not been used long enough to determine their safety profile.
