Are there any specific preparations I need to undertake before the scan?

I will have a CT scan. Are there any specific preparations I need to undertake before the scan?

It depends on the nature of the CT scan. For brain and lung CT scans there is no preparation. For abdominal and pelvic there is a 4-6 hour fasting requirement. The CT scheduler should tell you if there is any preparation needed.
Dear patient, Depending on the type of CT scan you are going to do. In most cases if contrast is going to be used or not. Specific instructions will be provided by your radiologist if contrast is to be used such as fasting, discontinuing certain medication, removing metallic objects and informing your doctor of any medical conditions or allergies. As a general rule, follow any specific instruction provided by your radiologist or the radiology department. If you will receive intravenous contrast for your CT Exam you may need to have a blood test done to evaluate kidney function, if you are a diabetic they may ask you to discontinue metformin etc.etc. As usual answering your question does not constitute medical advice and is provided only for informational purpose.
